TODAY IN COUNTRY MUSIC HISTORY:
1959: MARTY RAYBON, front man of SHENANDOAH was born. The group’s hits include Next To You, Next To Me, Church on Cumberland Road and Ghost In This House.
1982: MARTY ROBBINS died of a heart attack at age 57. One of the most popular country stars’, his career spanned parts of four decades with more than 100 albums released. He also drove a race car and finished in the Top 10 of six NASCAR races.
1984: SAM HUNT was born in Cedartown, Georgia. As a songwriter, he penned hits for KENNY CHESNEY, KEITH URBAN and BILLY CURRINGTON and has found success as an artist with tunes like Body Like A Back Road and Take Your Time.
1989: ALAN JACKSON’s second single, Here In The Real World was released. The title track of his debut album, the song launched Jackson’s lengthy and successful career.

CMA COUNTRY CHRISTMAS TONIGHT:
The 13th Annual CMA Country Christmas special airs tonight (Thursday) on ABC. CARLY PEARCE returns as host with performances by DAN + SHAY, SCOTTY MCCREERY, OLD DOMINION and MAREN MORRIS to name a few.
REBA GETS SUPERSTAR TREATMENT:
ABC will profile REBA MCENTIRE’s illustrious career tonight (Thursday) on Superstar. The show will include never-before-seen pictures and interviews with Reba about all aspects of her career.
TRACE ADKINS GETS CANCELED:
It’s One And Done for TRACE ADKINS’ country music drama, Monarch. The FOX network has canceled the show after just one season due to poor ratings. SHANIA TWAIN, MARTINA MCBRIDE, TANYA TUCKER and LITTLE BIG TOWN all made guest appearances during the season.
LEANN RIMES HAS VOCAL CORD BLEED:
LEANN RIMES has been forced to postpone a handful of concerts due to a bleed on her vocal cord. After being sick and struggling with a violent cough, the singer’s doctor discovered the bleed. She is now on vocal rest and hopes to return to singing and talking soon.
BLAKE WON’T GIVE UP MUSIC:
Despite stepping back from NBC’s The Voice next year, BLAKE SHELTON promises he’s not giving up his music career. In fact, Blake will tour starting in February and plans to take some time over the next few months to decide what his next album might sound like.
SHANIA TWAIN ADDS SHOWS:
Next year will now find SHANIA TWAIN playing over 70 shows after adding a fall leg to her Queen Of Me tour. The tour will support her new album of the same name, due out February 3.
