TODAY IN COUNTRY MUSIC HISTORY:
1897: JIMMIE RODGERS was born in Geiger, Alabama. He was the first inductee to the Country Music Hall of Fame.
1932: PATSY CLINE was born in Winchester, Virginia. She became the first female inductee to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1973, ten years after her death in a private plane crash.
2017: DON WILLIAMS died at age 78 after a short illness. Inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010, he scored 17 number one hits in the 1970s and ‘80s.
2017: MONTGOMERY GENTRY’s Troy Gentry was killed in a helicopter crash in Medford, New Jersey just hours before the duo was to perform there.

TRACE ADKINS TO STAR IN FOX SERIES:
Deadline reports TRACE ADKINS will co-star in a new FOX series called Monarch about a prominent country music family. He’ll star opposite Susan Sarandon, who’ll play the role of Dottie Cantrell Roman, a tough-as-nails country star. Trace’s character, Albie Roman has helped build an empire for himself and his wife, but when their status is put in question, their daughter, Nicolette “Nicky” Roman (Anna Friel) gets involved to protect her family and her birth right.
LORETTA LYNN HOSTING BENEFIT SHOW:
On September 13, LORETTA LYNN will host a benefit concert at the Grand Ole Opry House for those impacted by the recent flooding in Dickson and Humphreys counties in Tennessee. GARTH BROOKS, TRISHA YEARWOOD, LUKE BRYAN and LUKE COMBS will all perform and the show will be live-streamed at the Opry’s website.
RONNIE MILSAP’S WIFE DIES:
RONNIE MILSAP’s wife, Joyce Reeves Milsap, passed away on Monday, September 6 at age 81. It’s not known what her official cause of death was, but she had battled leukemia in the past. Joyce and Ronnie were married in 1965 and she provided the inspiration for many of his biggest hits.
LUKE BRYAN KEEPS MAKING WAVES:
For the second week, LUKE BRYAN’s hit, Waves sits at the top of the Country Airplay chart. The summer-themed tune became Luke’s 25th number one hit last week and comes from the deluxe edition of his album Born Here, Live Here, Die Here.
CBS TO AIR KENNY ROGERS TRIBUTE:
On September 23, CBS will air Kenny Rogers: All In For The Gambler, a concert filmed in Nashville prior to Kenny’s death. REBA MCENTIRE, DOLLY PARTON, LADY A and others will perform and share stories of the music icon in the 2-hour special.
