TODAY IN COUNTRY MUSIC HISTORY:
1974: DOLLY PARTON released Love Is Like A Butterfly, the title track to her fourth studio album. It not only went to number one on the country chart, but was used as the theme song for her television show, Dolly from 1976-1977.
1977: CRYSTAL GAYLE was at number one on the country chart with her signature hit, Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue.
1990: RANDY TRAVIS released the album Heroes And Friends, which included duets with WILLIE NELSON, DOLLY PARTON, TAMMY WYNETTE and others.
1993: GARTH BROOKS’ fifth studio album, In Pieces was released and debuted at number one on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart. It was also a big seller in Great Britain.
2008: JERRY REED died. A guitarist, actor and country artist, his most popular hits included East Bound And Down and She Got The Gold Mine (I Got The Shaft).
2010: MIRANDA LAMBERT scored five nominations for the 44th Annual Country Music Association Awards.

LUKE MAKES WAVES AT THE TOP:
LUKE BRYAN scores his 25th number one hit this week on the Country Airplay Chart with Waves. The accomplishment puts Luke in elite company, not to mention fifth place all-time for most number one’s on that chart behind KENNY CHESNEY (31); TIM MCGRAW (29); BLAKE SHELTON (28) and GEORGE STRAIT and ALAN JACKSON (26).
DAVID LEE MURPHY TEST POSITIVE:
Singer/songwriter DAVID LEE MURPHY has tested positive for Covid. He has canceled a pair of shows set for September 2 and 4 in light of the positive test. It’s not known what, if any, symptoms he’s experiencing.
DAVID ALLAN COE HOSPITALIZED:
Outlaw country singer DAVID ALLAN COE has been hospitalized with Covid. The 81-year-old is said to be awake and talking, though he is on oxygen and receiving large amounts of vitamins to help in the treatment of the virus. Some of his best-known hits include The Ride, You Never Even Called Me By My Name and Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile.
ZAC BROWN BAND PLAN COMEBACK ALBUM:
On October 15, the ZAC BROWN BAND will release a new studio album called The Comeback. The band are said to be returning to their roots for the sound of the new music, which will be their first new material since The Owl in 2019, which was a far departure from country music.
CARRIE RETURNS TO SNF:
Once again, this season CARRIE UNDERWOOD will kick off Sunday Night Football on NBC as she sings the theme song, Waitin’ All Day For Sunday Night. This time around, Carrie uses some special technology to project herself at a virtual tailgate party while performing. The new intro debuts September 12 prior to the Chicago Bears game against the Los Angeles Rams.
